Smith helps Hawks get past Warriors

Feb 26, 2011 - 6:22 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Josh Smith finished with a game-high 26 points to go along with nine rebounds as the Hawks dominated the Warriors, 95-79, at Oracle Arena.

Al Horford added 22 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists as the Hawks ended a three-game skid. Joe Johnson scored 12 points with five boards and five assists and the newly-acquired Kirk Hinrich scored eight points in a reserve role for Atlanta.

Hinrich was acquired along with Hilton Armstrong from the Washington Wizards for guards Mike Bibby, Maurice Evans and Jordan Crawford on Wednesday.

David Lee paced the Warriors with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Golden State dropped back-to-back games before heading out on a seven-game road trip. Monta Ellis added 16 points, but the team shot a dismal 37.1 percent from the field.

"We were a flat basketball team to start off," Warriors coach Keith Smart said. "We didn't have the energy to compete against a team that came out with something to prove."

Smith paced the Hawks with 10 points in the first as Atlanta jumped out to a commanding 29-17 lead at the end of one. Ellis scored 10 of the Warriors 18 points in the second quarter, and with the rest of Golden State shooting 4- of-15 from the field, the Hawks widened their lead to 55-35 at the half.

At the midpoint the Warriors had already committed 14 turnovers that the Hawks converted into 24 points.

Another poor shooting quarter for the Warriors in the third -- 36 percent from the field -- allowed the Hawks to widen their lead to 81-55 entering the final stanza. Horford and Smith scored 10 and nine points, respectively, for Atlanta, which held a 38-28 rebounding advantage entering the fourth.

The Warriors had a resurgent fourth quarter, but most of it came with Atlanta's starters watching from the bench, and was too late to make a difference.

"In this game we didn't do it," Smart continued. "We just have to find our rhythm to get ourselves going."
