Wolves hope to end slide vs. Warriors
Feb 27, 2011 - 4:13 PM (Sports Network) - Double-double machine Kevin Love will try to help the Minnesota Timberwolves end a seven-game slide as they continue a four-game homestand Sunday versus the Golden State Warriors at the Target Center. The Timberwolves fell to 0-2 on the residency following Friday's 95-81 setback to the New Orleans Hornets. Love set a new single-season double-double record at 45 games with 11 points and 14 rebounds, surpassing Moses Malone's 44-game burst for Philadelphia in 1982-83. Malone had 51 straight double-doubles over the course of the 1978-79 and '79-80 seasons as a member of Houston.
Wesley Johnson and Luke Ridnour scored 22 points apiece for Minnesota, which will also welcome the Lakers to the Twin Cities and are 9-21 at home this season.
"The way we are going now, it's not good basketball and we have to change that," Ridnour said. "We just have to keep competing."
Minnesota has also dropped seven in a row at the Target Center. Guard Wayne Ellington (personal) is questionable against the Warriors.
Golden State will begin a seven-game road trip this evening against the Wolves, Pacers, Wizards, Celtics, Sixers, Cavs and Nets, and is 7-18 away from Oakland in 2010-11.
It has dropped two in a row since a three-game winning streak and suffered a 95-79 loss to the Atlanta Hawks Friday night. David Lee had 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Monta Ellis added 16 points for the Warriors, who shot just 37.1 percent from the field.
"We were a flat basketball team to start off," Warriors coach Keith Smart said. "We didn't have the energy to compete against a team that came out with something to prove."
Lee has recorded a double-double in 10 of his last 18 games. Ellis is one of five players averaging at least 20.0 points and 5.0 assists, joining Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams.
Ellis will try to light up the Wolves tonight as Golden State leads the season series by a 2-0 count and has won five in a row and 12 of the past 15 meetings between the teams.
The Warriors have won four straight in Minnesota.
