Ginobili leads Spurs past Grizzlies

Feb 28, 2011 - 7:49 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Manu Ginobili scored a season-high 35 points to go with eight assists and six rebounds, as the Spurs used a solid fourth quarter to earn a 95-88 comeback victory over Memphis.

The Spurs have won 21 consecutive games at home and improved their league- leading record to 49-10. George Hill and Matt Bonner both added 14 points off the bench, while Tim Duncan posted 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

"I have to give our guys credit for continuing to play and work out of it when the momentum changed," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "They continued to dig down deep. We got a lot of good play from a lot of guys. Manu was fantastic."

Zach Randolph led the Grizzlies with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Mike Conley added 19 points, while reserve Darrell Arthur scored 12.

Memphis had a two-game winning streak snapped and has lost both meetings with the Spurs so far this season.

The Spurs trailed 63-59 entering the fourth quarter, and after tying the game on Bonner's three-pointer at 11:09, the Spurs took the lead with another Bonner triple at 10:10.

The game remained tight with the Grizzlies taking a quick 74-68 lead after five straight Conley points inside nine minutes, and after trading the lead, Randolph put the Grizzlies up 85-84 with a pair from the line at 1:34.

Four quick points from Ginobili put the Spurs on top, and San Antonio created some distance down the stretch from the line as the Grizzlies could not get closer than four, 92-88, throughout the duration.

"We couldn't get stops at key moments in the game," Randolph said. "It was a battle tonight. Ginobili got to the paint and they shot 33 free throws to our 19. That was the difference, we battled back, but we just couldn't pull it out."

Ginobili led a balanced Spurs attack in the first quarter, as San Antonio held a 26-16 lead after the opening 12 minutes. Both teams shot poorly in the second quarter, but the Spurs held on for a 43-35 halftime lead.

Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins was called for a technical just before the start of the second half, and after Ginobili connected on the free throw, Hill's short jumper gave the Spurs a 46-35 advantage.

However, the San Antonio cushion would be short lived as Conley's driving layup at 10:43 started a 10-1 run, which put the game at 47-45 after Gasol's free throws at 7:26.

Randolph later tied the game at 49-49 with a second-chance dunk, and his layup at 3:36 capped an even longer 13-2 Memphis run that eclipsed most of the quarter. The teams traded baskets down the stretch and Arthur's layup inside the final minute gave the Grizzlies a 63-59 lead entering the final stanza.

The teams will meet again on Tuesday in Memphis...The Grizzlies are now 13-20 on the road this season...The Spurs have won nine of their last 11 games overall...San Antonio guard Gary Neal missed the game with concussion-like symptoms...Ginobili's previous season-high was 31 against Dallas on November 26...Spurs guard Tony Parker left the game with a bruised left calf.
