Spurs roll into Memphis

Mar 1, 2011 - 4:11 PM (Sports Network) - The NBA's best invades Beale Street Tuesday when the San Antonio Spurs finish up a home-and-home set with the Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum, aiming for their 12th consecutive 50-win season.

The Spurs improved to an NBA-best 49-10 and matched a franchise record with their 21st straight home win with a 95-88 win over Memphis in the Alamo City on Sunday. The win came with a heavy price, however, as Spurs star point guard Tony Parker went down with a strained left soleus. The dynamic quarterback, who is averaging 17.1 points, 6.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game, is expected to miss two to four weeks of action.

Manu Ginobili scored a season-high 35 points to go with eight assists and six rebounds in Sunday's triumph as the Spurs used a solid fourth quarter to earn a comeback victory.

George Hill and Matt Bonner both added 14 points off the bench, while Tim Duncan posted 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

"I have to give our guys credit for continuing to play and work out of it when the momentum changed," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "They continued to dig down deep. We got a lot of good play from a lot of guys. Manu was fantastic."

San Antonio went 16-10 last season while Parker missed time with a few different injuries.

Zach Randolph led the Grizzlies with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Mike Conley added 19 points, while reserve Darrell Arthur scored 12.

Memphis, which had a two-game winning streak snapped, has lost both meetings with the Spurs so far this season.

"We couldn't get stops at key moments in the game," Randolph said. "It was a battle tonight. Ginobili got to the paint and they shot 33 free throws to our 19. That was the difference, we battled back, but we just couldn't pull it out."

Overall, San Antonio has won 18 of its past 22 games with the Grizz. A win tonight and the Spurs would match their victory total from all of last season when they finished 50-32.
