Warriors continue trek against Wizards

Mar 2, 2011 - 8:18 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of struggling teams square off in the nation's capital Wednesday when the Golden State Warriors resume their longest road trip of the season against the lowly Washington Wizards.

The Warriors have dropped the first two games on the seven-game trek and four straight overall after falling in Indianapolis on Tuesday when Danny Granger scored 10 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter, as the Pacers topped Golden State, 109-100.

Reggie Williams led the Warriors with 25 points off the bench, while Stephen Curry went 4-of-8 from three-point range en route to 20 points in the loss. Curry also dished out a game-high seven assists for the Warriors, who will finish their trip with visits to Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland and New Jersey.

The Wizards, meanwhile, have already dropped the first two tests on a four- game residency, the latest of which took place on Monday when Derrick Rose scored 21 points, dished out nine assists and pulled down five rebounds, as the Chicago Bulls dominated Washington, 105-77.

Andray Blatche finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards, who have dropped six straight overall. Nick Young and Josh Howard added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

"That first five minutes they were getting every rebound, knocking us all over the place, blocking every one of our shots and so they kind of reached in right from the beginning and took over the physicality of the game," Wizards head coach Flip Saunders said.

The Wizards also waived veteran guard Mike Bibby Monday after coming to a mutual agreement on a contract buyout. Bibby was unhappy that he landed with the Wizards in a trade that sent guard Kirk Hinrich to the Hawks. The 12th year pro out of Arizona went from a playoff contending team to a moribund Washington club.

In just two games for the Wizards, Bibby had two points and eight assists.

"We agreed to terms with Mike on a buyout of his contract, which gives us increased financial flexibility and opens up more opportunities for us to continue to develop and evaluate our younger players," Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld said.

Washington then did the same on Tuesday with veteran forward Al Thornton, a player that Golden State is reportedly interested in. Meanwhile, coach Flip Saunders will miss the game due to a family emergency concerning his mother. Assistant Randy Wittman will take the reins in Saunders' absence.

The Warriors have lost three of four overall and two straight on the road against the Wizards.
