Hornets take playoff push to Cleveland

Mar 6, 2011 - 3:53 PM (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Hornets resume a five-game road trip in the Forest City Sunday when they visit a Cleveland Cavaliers club coming off its first road win in almost four months.

The Hornets improved to 1-2 on their current trek with a big win in Memphis on Friday. Chris Paul ended with 23 points and 14 assists, and Willie Green provided a late spark in New Orleans' 98-91 victory.

The game was tied after the first quarter, at halftime, and heading into the fourth. Green came alive in the final quarter, however, scoring 13 of his 15 points to help the Hornets snap a three-game slide. Jarrett Jack finished with 19 points off the bench for New Orleans.

"We realize that we can't win any other way unless we play with tenacity and aggressiveness on defense, making sure we try to attack the basket," said Green.

Forward David West sprained his left ankle in the first quarter against the Grizzlies but the former All-Star has been listed as probable for tonight's game, while Trevor Ariza, who sat out in Memphis with a strained groin, is questionable.

For the Cavs, Anthony Parker and Baron Davis buried back-to-back three- pointers down the stretch, as Cleveland rallied for another win over the Knicks, 119-115, to snap their 26-game road losing streak. The Cavs won for the first time on the road in nearly four months despite trailing by 12 points with less than seven minutes to play.

Cleveland also beat the Knicks for the 11th straight time, moving to 3-0 against them this season -- including two wins in the last eight days with Carmelo Anthony in the New York lineup.

"I don't think our guys let the bright lights get to them tonight," said Cavs head coach Byron Scott. "Our guys never quit -- we just kept fighting."

Davis scored 18 points in his Cavs debut after being acquired in a trade last week. He followed Parker's trey from the right corner with a three-pointer near the top of the arc to give Cleveland a four-point lead with 10.6 seconds left.

J.J. Hickson had 23 points and Luke Harangody added 18 for the Cavs, whose last road victory game against New Jersey on Nov. 9. Besides the two recent wins, Cleveland also beat the Knicks on December 18 -- two days before their NBA-record 26-game losing streak began.

The Hornets snapped a three-game skid to Cleveland with a 108-101 win in the Big Easy earlier this season.
