Thunder and Grizzlies square off in Memphis
Mar 7, 2011 - 3:49 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies hope to build on a thrilling last second win against the NBA's hottest team when they welcome Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder to FedEx Forum.Zach Randolph buried the game-winner with 0.3 seconds remaining on Sunday, as Memphis rallied past the red-hot Dallas Mavericks, 104-103, in north Texas.
Randolph scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half for the Grizzlies, who stopped Dallas' winning streak at eight games. The Mavs had also won nine straight at home and 18 of 19 overall. Randolph also grabbed nine rebounds.
Mike Conley added 17 points and 10 assists for Memphis, which got 16 points and 10 boards from Marc Gasol.
Dallas put the ball in the hands of All-Star Dirk Nowitzki in the waning seconds and the big man came through, burying a shot from the foul line with 3.1 ticks remaining to give the Mavericks the lead. But, Randolph worked his magic following a timeout. Conley passed the ball to Randolph in the left corner, and he drained a contested 17-foot jumper with 0.3 seconds left for a 104-103 edge.
Terry was way off the mark with a 34-footer as time expired.
"Coach drew up the play up for me to come out to the corner and Mike (Conley) got me the ball and I got a good rhythm bounce and got the shot off," Randolph said.
In search of their first playoff berth since 2006, the Grizzlies are now in eighth place in the West, just two games behind Denver, which is fifth.
The Thunder are also coming off a thriller, taking a 122-118 overtime decision from Phoenix on Sunday. Russell Westbrook scored a game-high 32 points and dished out 11 assists in that one.
James Harden matched a career-high 26 points and added six boards and four assists in a reserve role while Durant scored 18 with eight caroms in the win, Oklahoma City's third straight.
"Everybody chipped in today," Durant said. "I did not start the game the way I wanted to. I still came out aggressive and Russell (Westbrook), Serge (Ibaka) and James (Harden) picked it up for me. It was a great win for us. We grinded it out. They are a tough team to guard."
Memphis has won two of the three meetings between the two clubs so far this season.
