Pacers take on Love, Wolves in Twin Cities
Mar 9, 2011 - 4:17 PM (Sports Network) - The reeling Indiana Pacers hope to right the ship in Minneapolis Wednesday when they meet Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center. The Pacers, who are opening up a three-game road trip tonight that will also include stops in Toronto and New York, dropped their fourth straight on Tuesday when Thaddeus Young finished with 18 points and nine rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers held off a late Indiana run to the Pacers, 110-100, at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Tyler Hansbrough finished one point shy of a career-high with 26 points to go with six rebounds, while both Danny Granger and Dahntay Jones added 11 points for the Pacers, who have dropped six of their last seven overall but still lead Charlotte by one game for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
"We just have to stick together, everyone as a team," Hansbrough said.
The Wolves, meanwhile, lost their third straight on Monday when Dirk Nowitzki led all scorers with 25 points and Jason Kidd ended with 13 points and nine assists, as the Dallas Mavericks outlasted Minnesota, 108-105, in the Twin Cities.
Despite a bruised knee Love posted his 51st consecutive double-double, finishing with 23 points and 17 rebounds for Minnesota to tie Hall of Famer Moses Malone for the league's post-merger record. Malone also recorded 51 straight double-doubles from December 29, 1978 to October 12, 1979 when he was with Houston.
"To have the crowd on their feet, such a great ovation. It's one of those moments you pinch yourself to see if it's real," Love said about the fans' reaction to tying the record. "It was a great moment for me. I wish we would have won."
"It's a heck of an accomplishment to be that consistent and put up the kind of numbers he's been putting up," Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis added. "It's very, very difficult to do that kind of thing."
Michael Beasley chipped in 20 points and nine rebounds for Minnesota, which has lost 11 of 13 overall.
Love has averaged 21.8 points and 16.3 rebounds since his streak began on Nov. 22, including 11 games 20-20 games, by far and away the most in the NBA. Despite the All-Star's individual success, however, the Timberwolves are just 11-40 during his historic run.
"I'd be jumping for joy if we were winning and everybody was playing great including myself," Love said. "I'm just going out there and playing hard and it is just kind of happening for me. But it is kind of an afterthought because we aren't winning."
The Pacers have won three of four over the Wolves, including a 116-105 win in Indy back on Feb. 11.
