Nets drop Warriors for rare three-game win streak

Mar 10, 2011 - 5:35 AM Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - For the first time in over two years the New Jersey Nets have won three straight games.

Brook Lopez posted 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Anthony Morrow added 22 points, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, as New Jersey topped Golden State, 94-90, at the Prudential Center.

Sasha Vujacic added 16 points while Kris Humphries scored 11 and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for the Nets, who had not won three straight since a four-game streak from January 31 - February 7 2009.

"I think we played tough," Vujacic said. "We knew we had to win. Our guys were terrific."

The Nets' monumental win was even greater due to the fact they played without point guard Deron Williams, who missed the game to be with his family for the birth of his fourth child.

Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Golden State, which has dropped three of four. David Lee posted a team-high 17 points with 10 caroms while both Dorell Wright and Reggie Williams added 10 points in the loss.

"We have been competitive against teams that have been playing well," Warriors coach Keith Smart said. "It's unfortunate that we didn't get the positive outcomes but we improved on this road trip."

Golden State took a 77-74 lead into the fourth, however, jumpers by Morrow and Jordan Farmar gave the Nets the lead 67 seconds in. A Humphries jumper at 8:33 put New Jersey ahead 85-81 before eight-straight points from Golden State -- six from Curry -- reestablished the Warriors' advantage.

Ellis capped the spurt with a jumper with 4:51 left, and Golden State held the lead until a Lopez jumper and conversion with 70 ticks left put the hosts ahead to stay at 92-90.

Golden State then went 0-of-3 from the field down the stretch, and Lopez sewed up the win with a pair of free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining.

Morrow and Vujacic posted 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the first quarter as the Nets held a 29-22 lead after 12 minutes. New Jersey was 5-of-5 from beyond the arc in the first quarter -- all supplied from Morrow and Vujacic.

The Warriors opened the second quarter with a fast start, and after consecutive Williams three-pointers around the 4 1/2 minute mark, Golden State held a 40-39 advantage.

The Nets countered with an 11-4 run, capped by a Lopez basket inside the final minute, to grab a 50-44 edge. But, the Warriors ended the quarter with a 5-1 run to trail 51-49 at the break.

Williams netted all of his points in the second stanza, including three makes from beyond the arc, in the stanza.

An 8-2 Warriors run gave Golden State a 69-63 edge with just under 4 1/2 remaining in the third quarter and the visitors maintained their lead heading into the final quarter.
