Sixers begin road swing at Milwaukee

Mar 12, 2011 - 4:07 PM (Sports Network) - Road wins have been hard to come by for the resurgent Philadelphia 76ers this season. They have five chances to get it right when they begin a lengthy trek tonight against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Sixers are 12-20 away from the City of Brotherly Love, but have won three in a row as the guest. They will also visit the Jazz, Clippers, Kings and Trail Blazers on the road swing.

Philadelphia made sure it headed to the road on a positive note and squeezed out an 89-86 victory over the East's top team, the Boston Celtics, at Wells Fargo Center Friday night. Spencer Hawes provided a spark with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Elton Brand and Andre Iguodala netted 14 and 13 points, respectively.

"It was a great bounce-back game for us. It was an intense game in which we stepped up and didn't let them shoot their threes. It was a great win for us," Brand said in reference to an overtime loss to Oklahoma City.

The 76ers have been one of the hottest teams in the East lately, going 17-6 in the past 23 contests and 31-18 since a dreadful 3-13 start. They are only a half-game behind the New York Knicks for the sixth spot in the conference standings and three games in back of fifth-seeded Atlanta.

Milwaukee has won two in a row and three of five games, including Wednesday's 110-90 triumph versus the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brandon Jennings and Earl Boykins had 18 points apiece, while John Salmons and Larry Sanders each scored 12 points Milwaukee, which pushed its home record to 16-16 this season.

"Our bench made it very clear that Cleveland would have to do something to get into the game," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. "I liked our response."

The Bucks have won consecutive games for the first time since late January. Bucks forward Corey Maggette is questionable for tonight with a sore right knee. He has missed two straight games and is averaging 13.1 ppg.

Milwaukee is one game off the final postseason spot in the East.

Philadelphia has won the first two meetings with Milwaukee this season and 10 of the past 13 contests in this series.
