Sixers take down Clippers
Mar 17, 2011 - 6:20 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jodie Meeks made five three-pointers en route to 22 points, as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 104-94.Jrue Holiday added 20 points and nine assists for the Sixers, who improved to 1-2 on a five-game road trip. Elton Brand donated 19 points and 12 boards.
Randy Foye finished with 20 points for the Clippers, who have lost three of four since a four-game winning streak.
DeAndre Jordan tallied 16 points and 15 rebounds for Los Angeles, which got 15 points and eight assists from Mo Williams. Blake Griffin had 14 points and eight boards.
"He is so athletic," Brand said of Griffin. "I just tried to keep him out of the paint."
The Sixers led by as many as 11 in the first quarter, but the Clippers scored the final eight points of the frame to make it 24-24.
Neither team led by more than five in a tight second period, which resulted in Philadelphia holding a 49-46 edge at the half.
The Sixers shot 66.7 percent from the field in the third to pull away. Holding a 61-55 margin with 7 1/2 minutes left, Philly went on a 16-4 run. Meeks capped the burst with a three-pointer to make it a 77-59 contest.
The 76ers took a 79-65 lead into the fourth and cruised to victory from there.
"We were flat. Our starters didn't give us a good start," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "Our energy wasn't good. Everything was difficult for us."
Game Notes
Philadelphia won both meetings with the Clippers this season and has won six of the last eight games in the series...The Sixers improved to 13-22 as the visitor this season...The Clippers started a four-game homestand on Wednesday...Sixers head coach Doug Collins was ejected at the end of the first half after getting two quick technical fouls.
