Blazers blow out Cavs
Mar 18, 2011 - 5:56 AM Portland, OR (Sports Network) - LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and the Trail Blazers jumped all over the Cavaliers early en route to a 111-70 laugher at Rose Garden.Gerald Wallace scored 11 of his 17 points in a first quarter that saw Portland get out to a 29-point lead, and it never looked back. Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum added 14 points apiece in the lopsided win, Portland's second in a row.
Ramon Sessions had a team-high 14 points for Cleveland, which couldn't build off a rare road win in Sacramento on Wednesday.
Cleveland made its first and last field goal attempts in the opening quarter...and missed all 12 shots in between.
"The whole focus tonight was on defense, and our defense made it easy on us," said Aldridge.
After trading baskets to start the game, the Blazers rattled off 22 consecutive points, with seven coming from Wallace. Two Daniel Gibson free throws stopped the run briefly, as Rudy Fernandez later capped a nine-point flurry with a three-pointer for a 33-4 cushion.
Portland wound up hitting 70 percent from the floor in the opening 12 minutes and held a healthy 37-12 advantage.
Patty Mills hit consecutive three-pointers to open the second quarter, proving the Blazers still had their foot on the gas.
It was a 30-point game at halftime, 64-34, and the down-trodden Cavs never made a run in the third frame. They entered the fourth trailing 89-45.
"It was an old-fashioned butt-whooping," summarized Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott.
