Thornton helps Kings drop Bucks
Mar 24, 2011 - 4:50 AM Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Marcus Thornton tallied 27 points and six rebounds, as the Sacramento Kings held off the Milwaukee Bucks, 97-90.Beno Udrih added 25 points, six boards and six assists for the Kings, who had lost nine of 11 coming in.
"We made the shots we needed to down the stretch," said Udrih. "You know, things worked out for us tonight. We grabbed the rebounds we needed to and made the free throws."
DeMarcus Cousins donated 13 points and nine rebounds for Sacramento, which got 11 points and 12 boards from Samuel Dalembert.
Carlos Delfino finished with 30 points for the Bucks, who had a brief two-game winning streak snapped.
Andrew Bogut had 15 points and nine rebounds for Milwaukee, which is three games behind Indiana for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Bucks held a 32-25 lead after 12 minutes of action, but the Kings came back in the second to cut the gap to 56-53 at the half.
Sacramento then outscored Milwaukee, 22-18, in the third stanza to take a 75-74 edge into the fourth.
Dalembert's alley-oop slam with 3:39 to play gave the Kings a 91-87 lead. Sacramento had a chance to extend its lead following Delfino's turnover, but Udrih missed a three-pointer.
Delfino and John Salmons each missed jumpers for the Bucks. Dalembert pulled down the defensive rebound. Jason Thompson missed a layup, but Dalembert was there again for the rebound. Dalembert got fouled and made 1-of-2 from the line to make it a 92-87 contest with 1:40 remaining.
The Bucks got a three-pointer from Delfino at the other end to make it a two- point game.
Brandon Jennings was called for an offensive foul with 17.6 seconds left, and the Kings went 5-of-6 from the field down the stretch to seal the victory.
"We got off to a pretty good start offensively but it was a little bit of fool's gold," Bucks head coach Scott Skiles said. "They (Sacramento) weren't very sharp early in the game defensively and we took advantage of it like we had to, but our defense was very poor basically start to finish. We just didn't have the type of intensity and focus you'd like to see and understanding the enormity of the game, we were kind of passive out there."
