Hayes' triple-double leads Rockets over Warriors

Mar 24, 2011 - 4:53 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Charles Hayes tallied his first career triple- double with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists to lead Houston's well- balanced attack, which saw all starters score in double digits, as the Rockets erupted past the Golden State Warriors, 131-112, at the Toyota Center.

Kevin Martin scored 34 points, Courtney Lee added 25 and Luis Scola notched 20 with 10 rebounds for Houston, which has won five straight but remains two games behind Memphis for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Kyle Lowry chipped in 13 points to round out the starters.

"I can't say how pleased I am with someone like Chuck (Hayes)," said Houston head coach Rick Adelman. "That's just terrific with a guy like that and the way he works and the things he's done. I can't emphasize enough the improvements he's made offensively to be more than just a screener. He's becoming a great passer. We saw that tonight. He attacks them. It's just a pleasure to watch a guy like that with his work ethic."

Dorell Wright posted a career-high 34 points and six assists for the reeling Warriors, who have lost six straight. David Lee had 19 points and nine rebounds while Stephen Curry added 16 points in the loss.

"Our back is against the wall and we need to find a way to win," Curry said. "We'll play it out and see what happens. We need to grind it out, play together and play smart and stay together as a team."

The Rockets kept their distance from the start, taking a 36-33 lead after the first. However, Al Thornton's jumper tied it at 57 with 2:20 left in the half.

Houston, though, scored the last nine points of the half to take a 66-57 lead at the break.

The lead grew to double digits in the third quarter and Houston took a 100-85 edge into the fourth quarter. The Rockets cruised from there, as all but one player scored from the hometeam during the final 12 minutes.

The biggest difference of the game was Houston's 27-of-35 performance from the free throw line as compared to 11-of-18 shots for the Warriors.

Houston has won 12 of its last 13 meetings with Golden State, including six straight in south Texas...Houston shot 50.5 percent from the field, while the Warriors made 51.1 percent of their shots...Courtney Lee had a season high in points and a career high in three-point field goal makes (5-for-8).
