Bobcats host slumping Knicks
Mar 26, 2011 - 2:38 PM (Sports Network) - After a huge comeback win in Boston on Friday, the Charlotte Bobcats will continue their push for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference by hosting the slumping New York Knicks.Dante Cunningham made a go-ahead jumper with 33.9 seconds remaining last night, as the Bobcats rallied past the Atlantic Division champion Celtics, 83-81.
D.J. White had 17 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Bobcats, who snapped a four-game skid. Gerald Henderson and D.J. Augustin added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Charlotte, which won despite being without leading scorer Stephen Jackson (strained hamstring) and big man Tyrus Thomas (bruised ribs).
The Bobcats are now two games behind the Indiana Pacers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 11 games left in their season.
Jackson, who has missed two of the last three games, remains questionable for tonight's contest while Thomas' status is unknown.
The Knicks, meanwhile, continue to fall apart since making a blockbuster deal to acquire Carmelo Anthony from Denver. Brandon Jennings finished with a season-high 37 points on Friday as the Milwaukee Bucks topped slumping New York, 102-96, at Madison Square Garden. The Bucks, like the Bobcats, are also two games behind Indiana.
Amar'e Stoudemire paced the Knicks with 28 points and nine rebounds. Carmelo Anthony added 25 points with eight boards and Toney Douglas scored 16 in a reserve role, but it wasn't enough to stop a five-game losing streak.
"When we turn things around basketball will be fun again," said Anthony. "We won't have to worry about losing a bunch in a row, we'll all be smiling again and having fun out there."
The Knicks have dropped to 7-11 since acquiring Anthony and currently sit with the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference, just 3 1/2 games ahead of Indiana.
New York has won four straight over the Bobcats, including a pair of meetings this season.
