Ellis, Warriors edge Wizards

Mar 28, 2011 - 5:01 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Monta Ellis finished with 37 points and 13 assists as the Warriors topped the Wizards, 114-104, sending Washington to another road loss.

David Lee scored 33 with 12 rebounds and Dorell Wright posted 19 points for Golden State, which has won consecutive games on the heels of a six-game skid.

"I think this young man is committed to turning this franchise around," Warriors coach Keith Smart said of Ellis. "I really believe that he is doing everything he can to put us in the right position with his play...to move us in the right direction."

JaVale McGee paced Washington with a career-high 28 points and 18 rebounds. Maurice Evans scored 23 points in a reserve role and John Wall added 18 with 12 assists but it wasn't enough to improve on the Wizards' woeful road record.

Washington is now 1-35 on the road and is endanger of matching the 1990-91 Sacramento Kings for lowest road win total in a season (1-40). The Wizards only road victory this season came at Cleveland on February 13, the same team they face to close out the season with a chance to match the record.

"We were trying to wear them down in the first five minutes of the game but [they] didn't go that way," Ellis said. "So we had to adjust in the second half and we stepped it up when we needed to and came out with the win."

The back-and-forth game came down to key possessions in the fourth quarter, and a crucial 20-7 run that allowed Golden State to pull away.

Cartier Martin made a pair from the line with 7:37 left to trim Washington's deficit to 94-93. However, just 21 seconds later Lee connected on a putback layup to begin the Warriors 20-7 run. Wright highlighted the spurt with a pair of three-pointers, with the second giving Golden State a 106-96 advantage.

Ellis capped the run with a finger roll layup with 1:50 remaining, giving the Warriors a 114-100 lead, and all the Wizards could manage down the stretch was a McGee dunk and pair of Evans free throws to account for the final margin.

Game Notes

Washington led 36-35 after one and held a 67-64 advantage at the break...Lee posted 12 points in the third quarter as the Warriors took a 90-84 lead into the fourth.
