Jazz seek relief with Wizards in town

Mar 28, 2011 - 3:22 PM (Sports Network) - A slumping Utah Jazz team hopes the arrival of the woeful Washington Wizards leads to some relief on Monday night in Salt Lake City.

The Jazz dropped their fifth in a row on Saturday when Jason Terry scored 22 points off the bench, including 10 during a huge fourth quarter that lifted the Dallas Mavericks to a 94-77 victory over Utah at EnergySolutions Arena.

Trailing by two points entering the fourth, the Mavericks outscored Utah 36-17 the rest of the way for their third straight win.

The Jazz got 21 points from Al Jefferson before he was ejected with 48.5 seconds left in the game after picking up two technical fouls.

"It's always frustrating to lose. Against a team like that, we can't make too many mistakes," said Jefferson. "And we made some mistakes in the fourth quarter."

C.J. Miles scored 16 points and Paul Millsap added 15 for Utah, which has fallen to 11th in the Western Conference -- five games behind No. 8 Memphis with just eight remaining.

"They just started making shots on us and took the wind out of us a little bit," said Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin.

The Wizards' dismal season on the road continued in Oakland on Sunday when Monta Ellis finished with 37 points and 13 assists as the Warriors topped the Wizards, 114-104.

JaVale McGee paced Washington with a career-high 28 points and 18 rebounds. Maurice Evans scored 23 points in a reserve role and John Wall added 18 with 12 assists but it wasn't enough to improve on the Wizards' woeful road record.

Washington is now 1-35 on the road and is endanger of matching the 1990-91 Sacramento Kings for lowest road win total in a season (1-40). The Wizards only road victory this season came at Cleveland on February 13, the same team they face to close out the season with a chance to match the record.

"We're not good enough," Washington coach Flip Saunders said. "We're just young and not as talented as the teams we're playing."

Guard Nick Young sat out the second half Sunday for the Wizards with a sore left knee and has already been ruled out of tonight's contest.

Utah has taken four straight from Washington in Salt Lake City.
