Anthony, Knicks top Orlando in OT

Mar 29, 2011 - 5:12 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Carmelo Anthony had 39 points and 10 rebounds to help the New York Knicks take a 113-106 win in overtime over the Orlando Magic.

The win keeps New York 3 1/2 games ahead of Indiana for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference and two games back of Philadelphia for the sixth spot. Both the Pacers and Sixers won on Monday. New York and Philadelphia both have eight games to play and Indiana has seven.

Amare Stoudemire had 20 points and nine rebounds, Chauncey Billups added 17 points, six rebounds and six assists while Toney Douglas donated 16 points for the Knicks, who had dropped six straight and nine of 10 coming into the game.

"Everyone contributed in their own way," Anthony said. "If we play with a lot of energy and intensity like that, a lot of good things happen and that makes the game fun."

Orlando has a five-game lead on Atlanta for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference and trails Miami by 4 1/2 games for the top spot in the Southeast Division. Orlando has eight games to play while Miami has nine and Atlanta 10.

Dwight Howard had 29 points and 18 rebounds but fouled out in overtime for the Magic, who had a five-game winning streak stopped. Jason Richardson had 24 points and Hedo Turkoglu added 18 points but also fouled out in OT.

Richardson hit a three-pointer with 5.7 seconds left to force overtime and later drained a hook shot for a 104-103 lead with 3 1/2 minutes to play in overtime.

Billups, though, countered with a three-pointer and, after Turkoglu missed a three at the other end, Anthony slammed the ball home for a four-point lead with under three minutes remaining.

After Howard put in a tip shot, he was called for a loose ball foul, his sixth of the game, and a subsequent technical foul. Billups made the free shot with 1:17 to play and the Magic didn't score any more.

"In the heat of the moment you don't know what could happen," Howard said of his technical foul. "My teammates understand that and we have to just move on."

The game was 18-all after 12 minutes and the Knicks ended the half on a Billups layup for a 48-44 lead. Orlando led in parts of the third, but consecutive three-balls from Anthony helped the team maintain a 75-73 lead going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter stayed tight throughout as the largest lead was six points when Stoudemire put in a layup for a 98-92 advantage with 1:20 left.

Orlando had won the previous six meetings with New York...New York hosts New Jersey on Wednesday...Orlando plays in Atlanta on Wednesday...Magic guard Jameer Nelson sat out the game with a left knee injury he suffered in Friday's win against the Nets.
