Wall lifts Wizards to 2nd road win of season

Mar 29, 2011 - 4:35 AM Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - John Wall scored 28 with seven assists and Jordan Crawford added 25 points, as the Washington Wizards captured just their second road win of the season with a 100-95 overtime victory over the reeling Utah Jazz.

JaVale McGee added 11 points and pulled down 17 rebounds while Maurice Evans chipped in 12 points for the Wizards, who are 2-35 as the visitors and snapped a four-game losing streak overall. With the win, they also avoided matching the 1990-91 Sacramento Kings for lowest road win total in a season (1-40).

C.J. Miles had a team-high 17 points and Al Jefferson provided 15 points and 16 boards for the Jazz, who have lost six in the a row and have fallen out of playoff contention. Earl Watson tallied 13 points and nine assists while Gordon Hayward came off the bench to chip in 12 points.

With a healthy 10-point lead heading into the final frame, Washington nearly let this one slip away, proving their road incompetence yet again.

Derrick Favors scored nine of his 11 points in the fourth quarter, seven of them came in a row to make up a 7-0 burst by the Jazz. His long jumper with 2:39 left in regulation made it an 82-80 deficit.

Following a Othyus Jeffers' free throw, Evans scored four straight points to give the Jazz an 84-83 lead with 45.1 seconds remaining.

Price's 1-of-2 showing from the free throw line with 14.3 ticks left made it a two-point contest to set up Crawford's clutch baseline jumper with 4.4 seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime deadlocked at 85.

"It's very frustrating," Favors said. "They hit a big shot to send it to overtime. They just kept hitting shots and that's how we lost."

Crawford used that momentum to start out the extra session and scored the first four points. Then Evans drained a trey as the Wizards scored the first seven points of the OT. That was enough to pull away for the win as Utah could only cut the lead to four the rest of the way out.

"I was really happy," Wizards head coach Flip Saunders said. "We've been in situations to win, we haven't been able. You know we've missed free throws, which we missed a couple today. But you know we found ways as far as down the stretch in that fourth quarter to get out big, make a couple shots."

Wall had a very productive first half with 24 points and four assists. He scored 11 of the Wizards' 16 first-quarter points as they fell behind early 21-16 after 12 minutes.

However, Washington charged back in the second scoring 35 points to take a 51-43 lead into the break.

The Wizards used that momentum to grow their lead to 12, 62-50, with 7 1/2 minutes left in the third following McGee's two free throws. They kept a double-digit lead most of the quarter and took a 73-63 lead heading into the fourth.

Utah had taken four straight from Washington in Salt Lake City...Both teams had 53 rebounds...Utah shot 47.6 percent at the foul line for a season-low (previous was 50 percent versus New Orleans December 12, 2010).
