Lakers take on Warriors in Oakland

Apr 6, 2011 - 3:10 PM (Sports Network) - The two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers will attempt to halt their first losing streak since the All-Star break when they visit Pacific Division-rival Golden State this evening.

The Lakers, who have topped the Warriors 12 straight times, lost their second consecutive game on Tuesday and fell to 17-3 since the break when Gordon Hayward's free throw with six seconds remaining lifted the struggling Utah Jazz over Los Angeles, 86-85, at Staples Center.

Kobe Bryant had 20 points and five assists for the Lakers, who are now 3 1/2 games behind the Spurs for the top seed in the Western Conference. Despite a bone bruise in his right knee Pau Gasol donated 19 points and five rebounds.

Andrew Bynum chipped in 12 points and a career-high 23 boards in defeat as the Lakers fell for the first time in 18 games to the Jazz on their home floor.

"They made big shots, they made big plays. We just played a little lackadaisical," Bryant said.

Los Angeles still holds a two-game lead for the No. 2 seed over Dallas with five games left for each team.

The Warriors, meanwhile, won for the fourth time in six games last night in Portland when Monta Ellis scored 30 points and David Lee posted 29 and 20 rebounds, as Golden State cruised past the Trail Blazers, 108-87, at the Rose Garden.

The game was tied at halftime, but by then the Blazers had already clinched their third consecutive postseason berth as a result of Houston losing to Sacramento.

The Warriors then hit 12-of-15 from the floor in the third quarter to go up by 16, and the fourth quarter saw both teams empty their benches.

"We took what the defense gave us," Ellis said. "Tonight was just our night and we never took our foot off the pedal."

Stephen Curry ended with 28 points, eight boards and four assists as the Warriors snapped an eight-game road losing streak. Golden State will now attempt to stop a six-game home losing streak to the Lakers.
