Nuggets host shorthanded Warriors

Apr 11, 2011 - 2:58 PM (Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors will be without leading scorer Monta Ellis tonight in Denver because of a head injury suffered in Sunday's loss versus Sacramento.

Ellis went down in the fourth quarter of a 104-103 setback to the Kings after making contact with Sacramento rookie DeMarcus Cousins. Ellis was motionless on the floor before eventually getting up, and was taken to a local hospital.

"You could just see in the look in his eyes that he no idea where he was," Warriors center David Lee told NBA.com "It's a scary moment, I've been there before, where guys assume you're fine because you're getting up but you have no idea where you're at."

Ellis is averaging a team-best 24.1 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds.

Stephen Curry paced the Warriors with a game-high 27 points and eight assists, while Lee posted 24 points and 14 rebounds. Dorell Wright added 19 points and six steals for the Warriors, who will close out the season on Wednesday versus Portland in Oakland.

The Warriors are 10-30 as the visitor this season.

Denver is fifth in the Western Conference standings and has won eight of its last 10 games, including Saturday's 130-106 victory over Minnesota thanks to a hot night from Ty Lawson.

Lawson buried 10-of-11 three-pointers for 37 points and J.R. Smith ended with 18 off the bench for the Nuggets. Keyon Martin scored 12 points and Raymond Felton contributed 11 points and 14 assists in a winning effort.

"It just felt like it was going in, even the last one I missed I thought that was going in," Lawson said.

Denver improved to 17-6 since trading away Carmelo Anthony and is 32-8 at home this season. The Nuggets will close out the regular season Wednesday at Utah. In injury news, guard Arron Afflalo (hamstring) is probable, forward Danilo Gallinari (ankle) is questionable and forward Wilson Chandler (ankle) is expected to miss tonight's game.

The 2010-11 series between Golden State and Denver is tied at a game apiece, but the Nuggets have won nine of 11 and 20 of the past 28 meetings. The Warriors are winless in their last five visits to the Rocky Mountains and own a paltry 3-13 mark in the past 16 contests at the Pepsi Center.
