Lakers top Spurs, Bynum injures knee

Apr 13, 2011 - 6:34 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, Lamar Odom added 23 and Pau Gasol totaled 17 points and 17 rebounds, as the Los Angeles Lakers won the game against the San Antonio Spurs, 102-93, though they may have lost the war due to an injury to Andrew Bynum.

The Spurs took advantage of wrapping up the top seed in the Western Conference by resting Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili.

The Lakers, on the other hand, are still jostling for position and had to play their regulars, proving costly as Bynum went down with a hyperextended right knee in the second quarter. Bynum will have an MRI on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury.

"I feel fine. I expect to be ready [for the playoffs]," Bynum said after the game.

Los Angeles is tied with Dallas for second place in the West and can secure the spot with a win over Sacramento in Wednesday's regular season finale.

"[The Lakers are] the three-time defending conference champions and two-time world champs," said Spurs forward Richard Jefferson. "They'll be ready."

The Spurs were led by Gary Neal's 16 points, while Matt Bonner chipped in 13 points in the loss, the club's first in five games.

The Lakers led by as many as 10 in the first quarter and were on top, 24-15, after 12 minutes of play. The Spurs, though, scored the first 11 points of the second to take the lead, and the teams went into the locker room tied, 45-45.

San Antonio went cold in the third and trailed 70-64 at its conclusion, but went in front just 4 1/2 minutes into the fourth on a Danny Green jumper.

Odom broke an 83-83 tie with a three-point play, and the Lakers led from there. The Sixth Man of the Year candidate got three more points the unconventional way a little latter, then hit one from long range to cap an 11-0 run for a 102-88 cushion that put the game away.

The Lakers snapped a season-long five-game slide, their longest since a seven- game drought from March 2-15, 2007...The teams split the season series...Derek Fisher scored 13 points for the Lakers, who finished the season with a 30-11 record at Staples Center.
