Conley, Grizzlies down Pelicans

Mar 13, 2014 - 4:02 AM New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Conley netted all 16 of his points in the second half, including a go-ahead floater with 1.5 seconds left to lift the Memphis Grizzlies to a 90-88 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Following a timeout, Conley got the ball at the top of the arc and used a Marc Gasol screen along the right wing before slicing through a pair of defenders and getting his shot from the paint to drop.

Austin Rivers' heave from beyond halfcourt at the buzzer was well off the mark for New Orleans.

Conley's bucket capped a 9-0 Memphis run to end the game.

"They made the play they needed to down the stretch," Pelicans head coach Monty Williams said. "Guys battled and fought their tails off."

Gasol tallied 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists while Zach Randolph added 13 points and nine boards for the Grizzlies, who have won four in a row.

"It was a pretty win; everybody fought," Randolph remarked. "We came together, stepped it up, and it was a game. It was a team win."

Anthony Davis had 29 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks and Rivers supplied 14 points and nine assists off the bench for New Orleans, which had its three- game winning streak snapped.

The Grizzlies trailed 88-81 after Davis made a pair of foul shots with 3:22 remaining, but Tony Allen split two free throws and Gasol hit a jumper before Allen hit two foul shots and drove in for a layup to tie the score at 88-88 with 1:16 to go.

Earlier, Nick Calathes' layup right before the first-quarter horn staked Memphis to a 28-26 edge.

The game was tied at 37-37 after Jon Leuer nailed a 3-pointer for Memphis, but the Pelicans answered with a 14-5 run. Rivers had a three-point play and knocked down a triple to begin the surge, which was capped on an Alexis Ajinca tip-in for a 51-42 New Orleans advantage with 2:42 to go until the half.

The Pelicans took a 57-48 cushion into the third but a Conley triple cut the gap to 58-56 with 7:59 left in the stanza. New Orleans, though, countered with a 14-6 swing over the next five-plus minutes. Rivers finished off the burst with a layup to extend the margin back to 72-62.

New Orleans led 74-67 after three.
