Spurs aim for 10 in a row with Jazz in town

Mar 16, 2014 - 1:59 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs will try to win their 10th consecutive game Sunday night when they welcome the Utah Jazz to the AT&T Center.

The Spurs haven't lost since Feb. 21 in Phoenix and have taken eight straight in Alamo City. With this run, the Spurs have grabbed the best record in the league.

On Friday, the Spurs' winning streak reached nine with a 119-85 demolishing of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Danny Green led a balanced San Antonio scoring attack with 15 points. Matt Bonner recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Marco Belinelli and Aron Baynes each scored 12 for the Spurs, who saw all 13 players that dressed score at least three points.

Cory Joseph added 11 points and Jeff Ayers finished with 10.

"We shared the ball and everyone played great tonight," said San Antonio guard Tony Parker, who finished with seven points and four assists in just over 14 minutes. "That's what we want."

The Spurs' bench finished with 76 points, compared to 43 for the starters.

San Antonio's Big Three of Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili combined for just 23 points, but they found their way into the NBA history books.

The threesome played in their 664th game together and won their 491st as a trio, moving into second place on the NBA's all-time wins list among a trio and third place for games played together. They surpassed the Lakers trio of Magic Johnson, Michael Cooper and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in both categories.

The Jazz have lost three straight and eight of their last nine. They are just 1-5 in their last six on the road and will face the Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies on this southern swing.

On Friday, Utah fell in Los Angeles to the Clippers, 96-87.

Trey Burke and Derrick Favors each tallied 18 points for Utah, with Favors adding nine boards. Enes Kanter deposited an 11-point, 15-rebound double- double for the Jazz.

Richard Jefferson netted 14 points, Alec Burks 10, and Gordon Hayward dished out a game-high 10 assists in the setback.

Utah led by 10 with 7:26 remaining in the third quarter and the Clippers went on a 17-2 surge. The Jazz fell 11 back, clawed within five, but ultimately lost.

"We came out and played with a lot of energy," said Favors. "We played as a team. We knew it was going to be a physical game coming in."

The Spurs have won all three of this season's meetings, four in a row in the series and six straight over the Jazz in San Antonio.
