Final
Curry, Thompson lead Warriors over Blazers
Mar 17, 2014 - 5:46 AM Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - No lead is safe against the Golden State Warriors.Klay Thompson made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 11.9 seconds remaining and the Warriors pulled out a dramatic 113-112 comeback win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.
After Damian Lillard drained two free throws to give Portland the lead in the final minute, Thompson, who missed Golden State's previous game due to the death of his grandfather, drilled a critical triple for a 113-111 lead.
Nicolas Batum got fouled at the other end after pulling down an offensive board, but after making the first free throw, he back-rimmed the second. The rebound was tapped back to Batum at the top of the key, and his contested turnaround 3-point try fell well short before the buzzer sounded.
Golden State trailed by as many as 18, but the sweet-shooting duo of Stephen Curry and Thompson, who combined for 51 points after the break, helped the club snap a two-game skid. Curry finished with 37 points, Thompson added 27 and David Lee netted 16 in the victory.
"It would have been easy to fold the tent and hang our heads," Warriors head coach Mark Jackson said. "It was a great win for us."
Lillard led six Blazers in double figures with 26 points and added seven assists for Portland, which has dropped five of its last six games.
"I don't think this one was really a let up the way the other ones were last week," said Lillard. "This one was just a good team making shots."
The Warriors uncharacteristically missed 11 of their 13 3-point attempts in the first half and were staring at a 70-52 deficit following a Batum triple 4:11 into the third quarter.
The cold streak suddenly thawed, though, as Golden State missed just four shots the rest of the quarter and got within 85-77 entering the fourth.
A 14-5 run, keyed by two 3-pointers from Curry and another from Thompson, completed turnaround and put Golden State in front, 100-96, with five minutes to play.
Batum scored the next six points, and it was back-and-forth from there, with Thompson breaking a 107-107 tie on a long 3-pointer with 53.9 seconds to go.
Lillard's rim-rattling tomahawk slam trimmed the deficit to one, and after Curry turned the ball over at the other end, Lillard drove the lane again and was fouled with 20.7 ticks on the clock.
Golden State quickly answered, as Curry penetrated the left side and kicked it back to the corner for Harrison Barnes, who swung it to Thompson for the deciding bucket.
It was a 24-23 Blazers lead at the end of the first quarter, and a 16-2 run midway through the second helped the hosts take a 55-44 advantage into the intermission.
