Mavs continue homestand versus Wolves

Mar 19, 2014 - 2:08 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Mavericks have won three straight and hope to continue the momentum Wednesday night when they welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves to American Airlines Center.

The Mavs haven't lost since March 11 at Oracle Arena to the Golden State Warriors. Dallas is 5-1 in its last six and seventh in the Western Conference, just 1 1/2 behind the Warriors and one game ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Mavericks started a franchise-record eight-game homestand with a 94-89 victory over the Boston Celtics on St. Patrick's Day.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 19 points with six rebounds for the Mavs. Monta Ellis scored 17 points with seven rebounds, while Devin Harris gave 12 points and six assists for Dallas.

Shawn Marion chipped in 11 and Brandon Wright added 10 off the bench.

"We knew it was going to be a dogfight," Ellis confessed. "But we stuck with it, made plays down the stretch when we needed, got defensive stops, got rebounds and came away with the win."

The Mavs will welcome the Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets, Thunder, LA Clippers, Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors to Big D on this homestand. The Mavs are 22-10 at home this season.

The Wolves are 14-19 on the road and have won six of their previous nine. Minnesota is clinging to some faint playoff hopes, sitting 5 1/2 behind the Grizzlies.

The T'Wolves squeaked out a 104-102 victory over the Sacramento Kings at the Target Center Sunday night.

Kevin Martin scored a game-high 31 points and Kevin Love added 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Minny. Martin was 14-for-14 from the free throw line and Love went 9-for-15 from the field.

Gorgui Dieng recorded his first double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and also added five blocks while starting for the injured Nikola Pekovic, who missed the game with an ankle injury.

"Gorgui came in and played well with the double-double. He got more comfortable as the game went on," said Wolves head coach Rick Adelman.

Ricky Rubio had 12 points and nine assists for the Timberwolves, winners in three of their last five. Corey Brewer was the final Minnesota player in double figures with 10.

The Timberwolves have won two of three against the Mavs this season, including a six-point win in Dallas on Nov. 30. Minnesota has won three of the last four in Dallas.
