76ers go for rare win streak, visit Hawks

On Saturday, for the first time in almost two months, the Sixers won an NBA basketball game.

On Monday, they'll try to win two games in a row for the first time since Jan. 4 when they head to Philips Arena to face the struggling Atlanta Hawks.

The Sixers matched the NBA record for most consecutive losses with 26, but didn't let the slide reach 27. They beat the Detroit Pistons Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center and beat them badly.

Philly trounced the Pistons, 123-98, and will now go for back-to-back victories for the first time since a four-game winning streak from Dec. 29- Jan. 4.

"I am pleased with the win tonight," said Sixers coach Brett Brown."That group's staying together. They didn't blink. They stayed together. What we don't boast in resumes and experience, they do have camaraderie and they do put in the work."

Thaddeus Young and Michael Carter-Williams led the way for Philadelphia with 21 points apiece. Henry Sims added 16, followed by 14 from Hollis Thompson and 13 out of Elliot Williams.

The Sixers also snapped a franchise-record 18-game home losing streak at the Wells Fargo Center, where they last won Jan. 15 versus Charlotte. They have lost 12 straight as the visitor.

The Hawks now own the longest current losing streak since the Sixers tasted victory. Atlanta has lost six in a row and its cushion as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference is down to just a game over the New York Knicks.

The Hawks, who have lost three in a row at home, let their losing streak reach six on Saturday night with a road loss to the Washington Wizards. Atlanta fell, 101-97.

"I think there's things we can take from tonight," said head coach Mike Budenholzer. "We're seeing a little bit better execution. We weren't able to get it done."

Jeff Teague netted 19 points and Paul Millsap added 17 and five assists for the Hawks. Cartier Martin and Pero Antic added 13 points apiece, while Louis Williams put through 12 points off the bench in defeat.

The Hawks play three straight at home and will host the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers on this residency.

The Hawks have won both of this season's meetings with Philadelphia and the Sixers have lost two of their last three in Atlanta.
