Grizzlies seek more success in meeting with T'Wolves

Apr 2, 2014 - 2:09 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies will try to continue their push to the postseason Wednesday night when they complete a five-game road trip at the Target Center versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Memphis is 2-2 on this road swing and is tied for seventh in the Western Conference playoff race with the Phoenix Suns. The two teams are just a half- game in front of the Dallas Mavericks.

On Monday, Zach Randolph had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies to a 94-92 win over the Denver Nuggets.

Courtney Lee and Mike Conley finished with 19 points apiece and Marc Gasol chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies, who made it to the Western Conference Finals last year before losing to the San Antonio Spurs.

"We just have to keep playing each game. Each game is an important game for us. We have to come out with a sense of urgency. We know what we're playing for," said Randolph.

The Grizzlies led by three and, with just over four seconds left, Denver's Timofey Mozgov missed a 3-pointer. Mozgov got the rebound but inexplicably dunked it with just over one second left.

Lee was quickly fouled on the inbounds pass and made the first free throw before intentionally missing the second. On the second, it appeared the ball failed to hit the rim, but the play went on and the clock expired and Memphis held on.

Memphis plays three of its next four at home, but still has the Spurs and Miami Heat on the docket.

The Timberwolves have lost two straight after a two-game winning streak. Overall, Minnesota has dropped five of its last seven and has all but mathematically fallen out of the playoff picture.

On Monday, the Wolves fell to the Los Angeles Clippers, 114-104, at the Target Center.

Kevin Love tallied 20 points and 13 rebounds for Minnesota. Kevin Martin was the only other starter in double figures with 12 points. Gorgui Dieng, Chase Budinger, Robbie Hummel and Shabazz Muhammad all scored in double digits off the bench.

"We're a little beat up right now, but we still have to come and play and try to give it our best. But that's a very good team right there," Love said.

After Ricky Rubio knocked down a 3-pointer to get the Wolves within 63-62 with 7:51 left in the third, the Clippers used a 25-2 run to seize control of the contest.

Nikola Pekovic left the game with a nagging ankle injury.

The Grizzlies have won 13 of the last 14 against the Timberwolves and six in a row in Minnesota.
