The Pelicans have lost three in a row and the Jazz are winless in their previous five games.
New Orleans has dropped its last three games on the heels of a five-game winning streak and opened a three-game road trip with a 137-107 setback against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.
Tyreke Evans had 27 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony Morrow finished with 17 points off the bench for the Pelicans, who trailed 40-26 after the first 12 minutes.
"We didn't play well to start the game. They shot the ball really well. Like I told our guys, in the month of March we set a high bar for how we can play regardless of who is on the floor," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams. "That is what we expect and they all agreed. We didn't play well tonight."
The Pelicans are 12-25 on the road and will close the trip Sunday at Portland.
Pelicans young star Anthony Davis (back) is questionable Friday and left the Nuggets game after playing just 10 minutes. Davis is averaging 21.1 points and 10.2 rebounds.
Utah is well rested and has dropped five in a row and 16 of 18 games, including Monday's 92-83 setback to the New York Knicks. Carmelo Anthony had 34 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead the visitors.
Gordon Hayward ended with 18 points, Alec Burks had 17 points and seven rebounds and Derrick Favors added 13 points and 13 boards for Utah, which is 15-22 at home and winless in the last three games in Salt Lake City.
The Jazz shot 39 percent for the game.
"Execution offensively. For whatever reason we didn't figure out the way they were guarding our plays and too many turnovers," Hayward said.
Utah has lost two of three meetings with New Orleans this season. The Pelicans have lost four in a row, 12 of 14 and 13 of the last 16 trips to Salt Lake City.
