Nets seek another home win with Pistons in town

Apr 4, 2014 - 2:29 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Brooklyn Nets have a new franchise record for consecutive wins at home and they'll try to extend it Friday night when they welcome the Detroit Pistons to Barclays Center.

The Nets have won 14 straight at home, which bested the previous mark of 13 set twice before. They have clinched a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference, but sit 2 1/2 games behind the Toronto Raptors for Atlantic Division supremacy.

Brooklyn also trails Toronto and the Chicago Bulls for third in the East.

The Nets had a three-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night in a lopsided loss to New York rivals, the Knicks, at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks, who share the eighth and final playoff spot, buried the Nets, 110-81, to give Brooklyn its third straight road loss.

Joe Johnson had 16 points for the Nets, who clinched a playoff spot with Tuesday's 105-96 victory over the Houston Rockets at Barclays Center. Deron Williams added 12 points and Alan Anderson scored 11 for Brooklyn.

"It's definitely a missed opportunity for us," Johnson said. "We've just got to move on from here."

The Nets allowed the Knicks to shoot a staggering 60 percent from the field. Since New York made so many shot, it dominated the battle of the boards to the tune of 41-23.

Brooklyn begins a three-game road trip after Friday's tilt with the Pistons. The Nets visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, then head to Miami and Orlando.

The Pistons returned to their losing ways after a brief flirtation with the winner's circle. After a home win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, the Pistons fell in Indiana to the Pacers, 101-94 on Wednesday.

Josh Smith led Detroit with 24 points and Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond each had a double-double. Monroe scored 17 with 16 rebounds and Drummond added 13 points and 14 boards.

Rodney Stuckey chipped in 16 off the bench, followed by 12 from Brandon Jennings and 10 out of Kyle Singler.

"We are a few plays away from being in a totally different position against a lot of teams, but especially against this team," said Monroe.

The Pacers closed the game on a 7-1 run.

Detroit is just 4-16 in its last 20 and will live in infamy as the team that ended the Philadelphia 76ers' record-tying streak of 26 consecutive losses with a setback in Philly on Saturday.

Detroit will go for its first season sweep against the Nets since the 2007-08 campaign. The Nets have won six of the last eight games as the host in this series.
