Hawks stay in playoff hunt with win over Cavs

Apr 5, 2014 - 3:38 AM Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Scott scored 26 points and Jeff Teague added 20 points and 12 assists to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 117-98 rout of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

Scott was 12-of-13 from the field and knocked down the only 3-pointer he attempted.

Paul Millsap had 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists and Lou Williams also chipped in with 16 for the Hawks, who hold a one-game lead over the Knicks for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings with the win and a New York loss.

"Every game is a must win now. Going to every game it is a must win for us. We have to play like it," said Teague.

Dion Waiters scored 23 points and Spencer Hawes had 16 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists for the Cavaliers, who fell three games behind the Hawks for the final spot in the upcoming Eastern Conference playoffs.

"You have to give Atlanta credit. They kicked our behind from the beginning to the end," said Cavs coach Mike Brown.

Atlanta shot 66.7 percent in the first quarter to race out to a 39-23 lead. Millsap led the way with 10 points in the frame and Scott added seven.

The Cavs managed to cut their deficit to 12, 61-49, after outscoring the Hawks 26-22 in the second frame.

After the Hawks stretched their lead to 19, Cleveland pulled within 12, 71-59, near the midway point of the third. Atlanta scored six straight to take a 79-61 lead before carrying a 90-73 lead into the final frame.

Atlanta's lead swelled to 23 in the fourth and the hosts never saw their lead dip below 14 over the final 12 minutes.

The Hawks took just 10 free throws (8-for-10) while sending Cleveland to the line 25 times (21-of-25) ... Atlanta shot 58.5 percent from the floor ... The Cavs shot a dismal 39.6 percent from field goal range.
