Celtics try to stop road slide, visit Pistons

Apr 5, 2014 - 2:40 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Celtics look to stop an 11-game road losing streak when they visit the Detroit Pistons Saturday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Celtics last won on the road Feb. 10 at Milwaukee and will visit Atlanta as well on this quick trek. They are 8-29 on the road this season.

Boston has lost seven in a row overall and 12 of the last 13 games, including Friday's 111-102 setback to the lowly Philadelphia 76ers at TD Bank Garden. Jerryd Bayless paced Boston with 23 points and Rajon Rondo tallied 11 points, 11 rebounds and 16 assists.

The last time Rondo had a triple-double was when he tore his ACL last Jan. 25.

Philadelphia, which recently ended a 26-game losing streak, was led by Rookie of the Year candidate Michael Carter-Williams, who had 24 points.

"They moved the ball, they moved bodies," said Celtics head coach Brad Stevens. "Carter-Williams was fantastic. Henry Sims dominated the paint for them. I'm sure they've had their down moments throughout their losing streak, but tonight wasn't one of them."

Boston committed 22 turnovers for 23 Sixers points and received 15 points from Jeff Green. Kelly Olynyk netted 14 points in defeat.

Celtics guard Avery Bradley missed the game with an Achilles issue and could miss Saturday's tilt with Detroit.

The Pistons have struggled as well with two straight losses and 10 in the last 12 games. In Friday's 116-104 defeat at Brooklyn, Andre Drummond ended with 23 points and 18 rebounds to lead the way. Josh Smith and Kyle Singler scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, in a losing effort.

Jonas Jerebko scored 16 points for Detroit, which shot a decent 47 percent and outscored the Nets 35-25 in the fourth quarter. The Nets, though, shot a scorching 60.5 percent and made 15-of-31 3-pointers.

"We didn't make (the Nets) make multiple passes for their buckets," Pistons head coach John Loyer said. "They made one, maybe two for their buckets and they have too good of players to do that."

Detroit is only 1-3 in its last four home games and 16-23 at The Palace. It will start a three-game road trip next week against Atlanta, Cleveland and Chicago.

The Pistons have won two of the first three meetings with Boston this season and are 6-3 in the previous nine games. The Celtics are winless in the last five trips to The Palace and 5-13 over the past 18 games there.
