Thunder try to get on track against Sacramento

Apr 8, 2014 - 2:08 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Durant may be on a scoring binge, but it's not helping the Oklahoma City Thunder in the win column.

Durant and the Thunder aim to get back in the groove Tuesday in the continuation of a four-game road trip against the Sacramento Kings.

The Thunder have lost two straight since winning three in a row and seven of eight games, and dropped a 122-115 decision at Phoenix on Sunday. Durant scored 38 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Russell Westbrook had 33 points.

Durant has scored 25 or more points in 41 straight games, passing Michael Jordan's career-long streak of 40 games in a row. Jordan did it back in 1986-87 and Durant last failed to score 25 or more points on Jan. 5 versus Boston. The NBA's leading scorer (32.1 ppg) is averaging 34.8 points during the streak.

"I don't really care about it. I wish it was over," Durant said of passing Jordan.

Oscar Robertson had a 46-game run back in 1963-64 and Wilt Chamberlain turned the trick in all 80 regular-season games of the 1961-62 campaign.

Oklahoma City is winless in its last three road games and will close the trip Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers. OKC may be running out of time as far as capturing the West's top seed and is 4 1/2 games behind San Antonio with six to play.

A Spurs win Tuesday night in Minnesota coupled with an OKC loss will give San Antonio homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Kings are playing out the string and have lost two in a row and five of the last seven games, including Sunday's 93-91 setback to the Dallas Mavericks.

Rudy Gay tallied 32 points, eight assists and six rebounds and DeMarcus Cousins totaled 28 points with 10 rebounds for the Kings, who shot a decent 47 percent and are 16-22 at home. The Kings are 3-30 when scoring less than 100.

"For us to be competitive, we have to come out and play like that every day," Gay said of himself and Cousins.

Cousins has posted four straight double-doubles.

Kings guard Isaiah Thomas missed his seventh straight game with a right quad contusion and is out indefinitely. He is averaging 20.7 points and a team-high 6.4 assists. Kings rookie guard Ray McCallum has taken advantage of the playing time with Thomas out and is averaging 14.3 points and 45.4 minutes in the past seven contests.

Sacramento is 0-3 against the Thunder this season and winless in the previous nine meetings between the teams. OKC has won 15 of the last 16 games in this series and is unbeaten in the past three trips to California's capital.
