Clippers try to get back on track with Jazz in town

Nov 3, 2014 - 3:30 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will put up their nine-game series winning streak against the Utah Jazz on Monday night at the Staples Center.

The Clips haven't lost since a 29-point humiliation in Salt Lake City on Jan. 17, 2012.

LA picked up its first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon when the Sacramento Kings came from behind and left Los Angeles with a 98-92 victory.

Spencer Hawes and Blake Griffin each finished with 17 points for the Clippers. Chris Paul played through a left foot sprain and ended with 16 points and 11 assists.

J.J. Redick managed 12 points and Jordan Farmar chipped in 10 off the bench.

"We got great shots down the stretch," head coach Doc Rivers said. "I loved the execution, so a lot of things were good, too. We got some stops, we got great shots down the stretch, and we didn't make any of them."

The Clippers visit hated rivals, the Golden State Warriors, on Wednesday at Oracle Arena, then it's four straight at home. The Clips won't travel outside the state of California until a meeting with the Orlando Magic on Nov. 19.

The Jazz started the season with back-to-back losses, but collected win No. 1 on Saturday with a home pasting of the Phoenix Suns, 118-91.

The starting forward combination of Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors did the job for the Jazz. They combined for 56 points, 19 rebounds and went 21-for-37 from the field.

Favors led the way with a career-high 32 points, Hayward added 24 and Trevor Booker dropped 14 points off the bench in Utah's first win of the season. Rookie Dante Exum, the No. 5 pick in June's draft, made three 3-pointers for 10 points in the triumph.

"We came out, played two good teams early and lost, so we needed this win," Favors said.

Alec Burks also finished with 10 points in the victory.

Utah held the high-flying Suns, who had beaten the defending champion San Antonio Spurs on Friday, to 41.4 percent from the floor and 22.6 percent from long range.

The Jazz didn't shoot much better and committed one more turnover than Phoenix, but Hayward and Favors were too much.

The Jazz have lost five straight as the visitor in this series.
