Final
Davis, Pelicans edge Spurs
Nov 9, 2014 - 6:31 AM San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Davis drove past Aron Baynes for the go-ahead layup with 6.6 seconds remaining, as the New Orleans Pelicans pulled out a 100-99 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.Davis had 27 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks for the Pelicans, who have won two straight games. New Orleans, which had lost seven straight at San Antonio, also got 18 points from Tyreke Evans, who came up with a key block on Kawhi Leonard's 3-point try from the left corner in the closing seconds.
Leonard got the ball back, but his shot from the left baseline bounced off the rim as time expired.
Jrue Holiday totaled 15 points and 11 assists for New Orleans.
Tony Parker scored 28 for the Spurs, who lost to the Pelicans for only the third time in the last 16 meetings. Danny Green scored 16, and Leonard ended with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Tim Duncan supplied 11 points and 10 boards in San Antonio's second straight loss.
Eric Gordon, who had 14 points for the visitors, hit a jumper that widened the margin to 98-92 with 2:24 left, but Boris Diaw scored a reverse layup, Leonard hit a jumper in the closing minute, and Green was then fouled while attempting a 3-point shot. His feet got tangled with Gordon, who committed the foul. Green made all three attempts with 12 seconds left to give the Spurs a 99-98 edge, the first lead for the hosts since 8:18 of the opening quarter.
Davis then got the ensuing inbounds pass at the foul line and blew by Baynes for the winning shot.
"I caught the ball and I was in attack mode," Davis said.
New Orleans held a 30-23 lead after the opening quarter and 55-53 at the half. They extended the difference to 81-71 after 36 minutes.
In the end, though, it was Davis' play that pushed the Pelicans over the top.
"He was knocking down jumpers and getting to the rim," Green said. "He's carrying his team right now and carrying them in the right direction."
