Raptors try to get back on track with Jazz in town

Nov 15, 2014 - 3:35 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The winning streak is over, but the Toronto Raptors are still a force to be reckoned with. They try to bounce back Saturday with the Utah Jazz in town at Air Canada Centre.

The Raptors had a five-game winning streak stopped with Thursday's 100-93 loss to the Chicago Bulls and fell to 3-1 on a seven-game homestand. A 35-14 difference in the third quarter doomed the Raptors, whose 7-1 start was the best in franchise history.

Kyle Lowry was busy with 20 points, eight assists and eight rebounds, while James Johnson provided 16 points off the bench and Amir Johnson added 14. Terrence Ross and DeMar DeRozan scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Toronto, which made a season-low 39.3 percent from the field.

"We missed some shots. We just didn't play our game," said Lowry. "We didn't play up to it physically and defensively. We have to do that for a full 48 minutes."

Toronto is 5-1 at home and will also host Memphis and Milwaukee. It is second in the NBA with 105.4 ppg and Dallas leads slightly at 107.1 ppg.

Raptors coach Dwane Casey has an opportunity to tie Lenny Wilkens (113) for second on the team's all-time coaching wins list. Sam Mitchell is first with 156 victories.

DeRozan passed Andrea Bargnani (6,561) for third place on the Raptors' all- time scoring list. Vince Carter is second and Chris Bosh is first.

Utah halted a two-game slide and knotted its record on this current road trip with a 102-100 victory over the New York Knicks Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

Trey Burke hit a turnaround jumper at the buzzer for the game-winning points as the Knicks were dealt a seventh consecutive loss despite 46 points from Carmelo Anthony, the last three coming on a contested step-back shot with 2.3 seconds remaining that forged a 100-100 tie.

Utah then got the ball to Burke out of a timeout and the second-year guard knocked down a 19-footer with J.R. Smith's hand in his face to halt Utah's two-game skid.

"Trey is the guy that's been known for hitting big shots," said Jazz head coach Quin Snyder. "I think he's one of those guys that gets excited when he gets the ball."

Burke finished with 13 points and Gordon Hayward poured in 33 for the Jazz, with Derrick Favors contributing a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds to the victory.

The Jazz opened this five-game road sojourn with a win in Detroit and Saturday night will be the finale of the trip.

The Raptors won both of last season's meetings and their victory at home snapped a seven-game home losing streak in this series.
