Mavs' offense continues hot stretch in win over Timberwolves

Nov 16, 2014 - 4:28 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Following their largest win in franchise history, the Dallas Mavericks kept the momentum going on Saturday night with a 131-117 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Monta Ellis had a season-high 30 points to lead the Mavs, who were coming off a 53-point win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.

Dirk Nowitzki deposited 15 points, while Tyson Chandler netted 12 points with a season-high 16 rebounds and Chandler Parsons added 12 in the win, Dallas' third straight to wrap up its four-game homestand. J.J. Barea led the bench production with 14 points.

"We were doing some pretty good things in the first half," said Mavs coach Rick Carlisle. "We gave up too much, but it's a good win regardless."

Kevin Martin posted a season-high 34 points and Shabazz Muhammad tallied 18 points off the bench for Minnesota, which has lost five straight.

A night after getting blown out by 48 in New Orleans, the Timberwolves were competitive early on. Following a layup by Devin Harris, Chase Budinger nailed a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 23-21. However, Nowitzki answered with a trey and Al-Farouq Aminu closed the opening quarter with a putback dunk to give the Mavs a 28-22 lead.

"(It) was a better effort," Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said. "Dallas is a very good team, a good defensive team."

Dallas quickly built its lead to double digits in the second, then Ellis made a pair of 3-pointers later in the quarter before Brandan Wright's putback slam stretched the margin to 56-35 with over two minutes to go before halftime.

Both teams played to a stalemate in the third, with each putting up 38 as the Mavs took their 19-point halftime lead into the fourth quarter.

Dallas tied a franchise record with 76 points in the paint and led by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter.
