Late Bosh shot lifts Miami past Charlotte

Nov 24, 2014 - 3:17 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Bosh's baseline jumper with 31 seconds left was the difference, as the Miami Heat survived a scare from the Charlotte Hornets, 94-93, in a see-saw affair at American Airlines Arena.

Miami trailed by one when Bosh channeled his inner Olajuwon, shaking free from Cody Zeller on a post up and hitting a turn-around 12-footer.

Kemba Walker missed a runner at the other end six seconds later. Mario Chalmers, who scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth, was then pressured near midcourt by Walker, and Lance Stephenson came up with the loose ball with 14.9 to play.

Out of a timeout, Walker missed a pull-up jumper and Al Jefferson's tip-in rimmed out. The buzzer sounded as Jefferson attempted to get another tip off his own miss.

Deng paced Miami with 26 points and eight rebounds and Bosh scored 20 with 10 boards. Chalmers also added 10 assists, giving him his second double-double this month. In six previous NBA seasons, Chalmers had just two double- doubles.

"It's tough playing down the stretch in pressure situations," said Bosh. "I think it was good for us, win or lose. It's good for us to be in these positions. I'm glad we won."

Jefferson posted 22 points and 12 boards in Charlotte's fifth straight loss.

"We're playing well enough to win every game," said Jefferson. "It's just not going our way right now."

Charlotte trailed by nine at the half but dominated the third quarter to surge ahead.

Stephenson opened the frame by splitting a pair of free throws before Jefferson converted a three-point play and Marvin Williams canned a 3. Just over three minutes in, Jefferson tied the game with a layup.

The Hornets took their first lead since early in the second quarter with a Walker 3 at 6:51. Miami briefly went back in front before Charlotte closed the period on a 8-0 run to take a 72-67 lead into the fourth.

Trailing by six, the Heat worked their way into the bonus with 7:28 left, changing the momentum of the game. Deng and Shabazz Napier both made two free throws and Chalmers went 4-for-4 over the next three minutes to help Miami climb back in front.

"It was a collective effort," said Chalmers.

Chalmers made two more from the line at 3:22 to make it 91-88, but Charlotte had an answer in the form of Walker's deep trey from the left wing. Gary Neal then stepped into an 18-footer to put the visitors back in front.

Chalmers hit 1-of-2 from the stripe with 1:11 to play and Walker was called for traveling at the other end, setting up Bosh's winner.
