Hornets hope to halt skid against Hawks

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Charlotte Hornets are struggling as evidenced by an eight-game losing streak and hope to end the slump Saturday versus the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena.

The Hornets dropped a 106-101 decision versus the Golden State Warriors Friday night, as Brian Roberts scored 20 points off the bench and Al Jefferson added 18. Cody Zeller posted 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Hornets, who shot 43.7 percent and hit on just 6-of-19 3-pointers.

Kemba Walker added 13 points and 13 assists in defeat.

"If we don't start hitting and rebounding, nothing else will matter," Hornets coach Steve Clifford said.

Charlotte lost all three of its games on the homestand and will play three more at home after this visit to Atlanta. The Hornets are only 1-7 on the road.

The Hawks have won three of four games and will continue a four-game homestand tonight.

In Friday's 100-91 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, Jeff Teague scored 26 points and DeMarre Carroll added 19. Al Horford posted 10 points and 10 boards for the Hawks, who shot 50 percent from the field and improved to 6-2 at home.

"I think our main focus was defense," said Carroll. "We came into the game really focusing on defense and letting the offense take care of itself."

Atlanta will also host Boston in the homestand on Tuesday.

The Hornets defeated the Hawks, 122-119, in double overtime on Nov. 7, but Atlanta is 15-5 in the past 20 meetings between the teams.

Charlotte has lost 13 of the last 16 trips to Philips Arena.
