Warriors streak into matchup with Pistons

Nov 30, 2014 - 3:51 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors look to close out a perfect five-game road trip when they visit the Detroit Pistons Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors have ripped off eight straight wins and handed the Charlotte Hornets a 106-101 setback Friday night behind Marreese Speights' 27 points off the bench. He is averaging 18.7 points in the last six games.

"The guy saved us again," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said of his reserve. "He carried us offensively when we were in a funk."

Stephen Curry had 26 points and struggled from 3-point range, making only 1- of-10 beyond the arc. Klay Thompson scored 17 points and Draymond Green ended with nine and 10 rebounds for Golden State, which shot 42.4 percent and made just seven of its 26 attempts from downtown.

The Warriors, whose 13-2 start is the best in team history, outscored the Hornets, 32-21, in the fourth quarter and shot 60 percent over the last 12 minutes. They are 9-0 when holding opponents under 100 points.

Golden State is 8-1 on the road, first in field goal percentage (48.8) and third in scoring (107.3 ppg). Golden State also leads the NBA in assists (25.9), blocks (6.33) and defensive rebounds (35.9) per game.

Detroit has a slim chance at ending a seven-game losing streak with the Warriors in town. It is 28th in the league in scoring (91.9 ppg) and suffered a 104-88 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks Friday night.

Andre Drummond posted 26 points and 20 boards, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 21 points and Josh Smith ended with 13 and nine assists, as the Pistons fell to 3-13 on the season and 0-2 on a four-game homestand.

"We were fine starters against starters, but once then went to the bench we had no answers," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said.

The Bucks led by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter and received 69 points from the bench, while Van Gundy's reserves registered only 13 points.

Drummond is averaging 22.0 points and 14.3 rebounds in his last three games for Detroit, which will close the homestand Tuesday versus Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers and is just 2-6 at The Palace.

Pistons guard Brandon Jennings missed his third straight game with a left thumb injury and is questionable Sunday. Jennings is averaging 16.0 ppg.

Detroit lost both games against Golden State a season ago and is winless in the previous six meetings between the teams. The Pistons, though, are 15-4 in the past 19 encounters with the Warriors in Auburn Hills.

The Warriors will host the Pistons on March 11. Curry averaged 22.0 points and 8.5 assists against the Pistons last season.
