Streaking Spurs take road show to Brooklyn

Dec 3, 2014 - 2:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The road trip continues for the streaking San Antonio Spurs when they take on the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday at Barclays Center.

The Spurs defeated Boston on Sunday to open the four-game trek and narrowly defeated winless Philadelphia, 109-103, Monday night. Tim Duncan (rest) and Tony Parker (bruised ribs) did not play and Kawhi Leonard picked up the slack with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Aron Baynes provided 15 points and nine rebounds, Manu Ginobili and Cory Joseph scored 14 points apiece and Matt Bonner chipped in 12 for the Spurs, who extended their winning streak to eight games and have won four in a row on the road.

Philadelphia had a 30-25 scoring edge in the fourth quarter and racked up 23 points off 15 San Antonio turnovers, but it wasn't enough.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich talked about the Sixers' struggles.

"It's hard to come out there, night after night, and not get the wins. I've seen teams at every level just give in and give up. These guys came after us with everything," Popovich said.

San Antonio held a 52-42 rebounding margin and led by 24 points in the second quarter to push its record against East teams to 7-0.

The Spurs, who have scored 100 or more points in four straight games, are 7-3 on the road and will face a stiff test in Memphis Friday night. They are third in opponents' scoring at 93.1 points per game and 8-0 when reaching the century mark in scoring.

Parker is probable Wednesday because of the rib issue and leads the team in points (17.3) and assists (5.7). Duncan should be ready for tip off.

Brooklyn will try to stop a three-game home losing streak when it starts a mini homestand versus San Antonio, Atlanta and Cleveland. It is 3-4 at Barclays Center this season.

The Nets won the battle of New York against the Knicks, 98-93, on Tuesday. Brook Lopez had 23 points and eight rebounds, while Joe Johnson and Deron Williams scored 22 and 19 points, respectively, for Brooklyn, which made 43.8 percent from the floor and 6-of-17 3-pointers.

"Hopefully we can build on this. This was a good win," Brooklyn coach Lionel Hollins said.

The Nets are 2-0 against the Knicks this season and went 4-0 in the series back in 2006-07.

Brooklyn has rotated results over the previous six games and rebounded from a 102-84 loss versus the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.

San Antonio recently defeated Brooklyn, 99-87, on Nov. 22 in the Alamo City and Parker led three players with 20 or more points with 22. Leonard and Danny Green scored 21 apiece. The Nets were led by Williams' 24 points.

The Spurs have dominated the Nets in recent years, going 21-2 in the last 23 games and 9-2 in the previous 11 road matchups in this series.
