Ellis, Mavs continue to roll with win over Bucks

Dec 4, 2014 - 6:25 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Monta Ellis' jumper as time expired lifted the Dallas Mavericks to a 107-105 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.

Ellis, whose season-high 38 points helped the Mavs to a grueling double- overtime victory over Chicago on Tuesday, supplied eight of the final nine points for Dallas to burn his former team.

With the game tied after Brandon Knight's jumper, Ellis drove down the right sideline out of a timeout, spun to his left to gain separation from O.J. Mayo and hit a tough fadeaway jumper as the buzzer sounded to give Dallas its fifth straight win.

"It was a tough shot, he made it," said Bucks coach Jason Kidd. "That's how basketball goes."

Ellis had 23 points with seven assists, Tyson Chandler dropped in 18 points with 20 rebounds and Chandler Parsons chipped in with 14 points.

Knight paced the Bucks with 25 points and Khris Middleton registered 21 points off the bench. Milwaukee has lost three straight following a three-game winning streak.

Dirk Nowitzki was held out of the lineup to rest after Tuesday's marathon with the Bulls, and the Bucks took advantage of his absence with a lead late in the fourth.

Chandler made a layup early in the quarter to stake the visitors to an 82-80 lead, but Jared Dudley canned a pair of 3-pointers in a little more than a minute to push the Bucks in front.

Milwaukee then led 98-90 after Larry Sanders' dunk with 4:23 remaining.

That's when Ellis put the team on his back with his future Hall of Fame teammate on the bench. Ellis, who played 103 games for Milwaukee over two seasons, assisted on Chandler's layup that jump-started a 12-1 run that he capped with a pair of baskets to give the Mavs a 102-99 edge.

Knight then scored four straight before Ellis answered with another jumper. Richard Jefferson then spilt a pair of free throws with 18.9 seconds left to set up Knight's tying field goal.

"(Monta) is an All-Star, flat out," said Mavs coach Rick Carlisle. "The load he has taken on during this trip has been phenomenal."

A 13-0 Dallas run that started early in the third quarter gave the Mavs a 72-68 lead and helped them take an 80-78 margin into the fourth.

Milwaukee made 25-of-40 shots in the opening half to take a 64-57 lead at the break.

Milwaukee's Jabari Parker, who finished with eight points, was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month prior to the game ... Bucks forward Ersan Ilyasova suffered a nasal fracture in Tuesday's loss to the Cavs and is out indefinitely ... The Mavs had a 52-40 edge in the paint and outscored the Bucks by a 16-4 margin in second-chance points ... There were nine ties and seven lead changes.
