Kings edge Pacers in OT

Dec 6, 2014 - 7:56 AM Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Sacramento Kings finally won a game without DeMarcus Cousins.

It wound up being a lot tougher than expected.

Carl Landry's go-ahead layup with 0.8 seconds left in overtime lifted the Kings to a 102-101 win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.

Sacramento led by as many as 17 in regulation, but the Pacers closed the fourth on a 10-2 run to force the extra session and a C.J. Watson 3-pointer preceded his floater in the paint to stake Indiana to a 101-100 edge with 1:03 remaining in overtime.

After Darren Collison and David West traded missed jumpers, Rudy Gay took the clock down and rose up for a contested jumper along the right baseline. Landry hauled in the misfire for an offensive rebound and laid the ball in to put the Kings in front.

West's desperation turnaround heave at the horn ricocheted off the backboard.

"It's frustrating as any loss. We win one that way, we lose one that way. It's part of the long NBA season, we're going to have some like that," said Pacers coach Frank Vogel. "I'm proud of how we competed down the stretch to make it a game when we were down and weren't really playing that well, but we showed a lot of fight late."

Cousins, who sat out a fourth straight game with a viral infection, was released from a hospital Wednesday after receiving treatment for the illness. The Kings had been 0-16 without their big man in his career coming in.

Gay netted 27 points, while Collison added 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals for Sacramento, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

"We did have some struggles coming down the stretch but at the end of the day when we're on a losing streak like we were, you're just trying to get a win any way you can," said Collison. "It wasn't pretty at the end but we were able to gut it out and find a way to win."

West posted 16 points and eight boards, Rodney Stuckey supplied 14 points and four swipes and Watson added 14 points for the Pacers, who have dropped four in a row and five of their last six.

The Kings led 94-86 with 3:48 to play in regulation prior to Indiana's swing which forced another period.

West and Stuckey each had four points during the flurry. Stuckey hit a jumper with 1:10 left to get the Pacers within 96-94 and West's contested fallaway in the paint knotted the contest with 28.1 ticks on the clock.

Gay had a chance to win it at the other end, but his pull-up right wing jumper was short and West was unable to hit one from beyond the arc in the waning seconds following an Indiana timeout.

After Stuckey nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game at 11-11 prior to the midway point of the opening quarter, Sacramento ripped off 15 straight points. Collison had five points during the surge, which was capped on a pair of Ben McLemore free throws for a 26-11 Kings advantage late in the first.

Sacramento took a 34-20 margin into the second, but Luis Scola finished off a 12-2 Pacers burst with a layup to cut the deficit to 42-40.

The Kings, though, netted the final eight points of the half and led 56-45 at the break.

Sacramento held an 80-72 cushion going into the fourth.

Cousins is averaging 23.5 points, 12.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game ... Indiana had won four consecutive meetings with the Kings ... Indiana shot just 37.5 percent (36-of-96), but scored 22 points off 15 Sacramento turnovers and gave the ball away just nine times ... Jason Thompson had nine points and 10 boards for the Kings.
