Pistons hope to end slide with 76ers in town

Dec 6, 2014 - 3:19 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - If the Philadelphia 76ers could recently end a long losing streak, why not the Detroit Pistons?

The Pistons have dropped 10 in a row, which is nothing compared to the 17 straight that befell the Sixers to open the season. The two sides will meet Saturday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Detroit hasn't won since a Nov. 14 decision over the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena. The Pistons haven't won at home since Nov. 7, a span of seven games.

On Wednesday, the Pistons fell in Boston to the Celtics, 109-102, in overtime.

Greg Monroe did his part to end Detroit's slide, but Jared Sullinger was just as clutch to push Boston to a victory. Sullinger scored 10 of his 14 points in overtime to help the Celtics to the win.

Monroe was a force inside down the stretch, and his 29-point effort off the bench was a huge reason his team made a game of it late.

"I got into a good rhythm and I just have to continue to be comfortable coming off the bench," said Monroe.

Andre Drummond deposited 27 points with 14 rebounds and five blocks in the setback. Josh Smith also registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finished with 15 and Brandon Jennings scored one point on 0-for-11 shooting. Jennings did have 12 assists in the loss.

The Pistons host Oklahoma City on Sunday, then Portland on Tuesday.

The Sixers didn't parlay Wednesday's first victory of the season over the Minnesota Timberwolves into a winning streak. They fell on Friday night, at home, to the Oklahoma City Thunder, 103-91.

Robert Covington scored a career-high 21 points off the bench to lead the Sixers. Michael Carter-Williams had 16 points and 14 assists working against Russell Westbrook in a heated matchup all night. The two were jawing at each other pretty consistently and the All-Star won that battle with 27 points and the victory.

Nerlens Noel also posted a double-double, scoring 11 with 10 rebounds. Luc Mbah a Moute and rookie K.J. McDaniels also finished with 11 apiece, while Henry Sims managed 10 for the Sixers, who are 0-11 at home this season.

"There was no back down," said Sixers coach Brett Brown. "We had one lull in the third quarter. ... But I thought after that, there was a lot of fight in that young group."

Philly will visit Atlanta and Brooklyn during this road trip.

The 76ers ended a four-game series losing streak on March 29, but Detroit has won four straight as the host in this series.
