Grizzlies play host to Jazz
Dec 22, 2014 - 2:51 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies have lost two straight, but will try to get back on track Monday night when they welcome the Utah Jazz to FedExForum. The Grizzlies fell at home to the Chicago Bulls on Friday, then lost at Quicken Loans Arena, 105-91, to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday.
Memphis was without Tony Allen for the third straight game and Zach Randolph missed the contest with a sore right knee. In their absence, Marc Gasol scored 23 points, pulled down 11 boards and added five assists for the Grizzlies.
"We have enough talent in this locker room not just to win tonight, but to win the same amount of games that we've won so far," said Gasol. "I have a lot of faith in the people and the personnel that we have. It was not about not having those two outstanding players tonight."
Jon Leuer finished with 16 points, followed by 12 from Vince Carter off the bench. Mike Conley scored 11 points, but starters Tayshaun Prince and Courtney Lee combined for six points.
The Grizzlies were just 1-of-16 (6.3 percent) from beyond the arc and never led. The Cavs shot 60.5 percent from the field while making 7-of-14 from long distance.
The Grizzlies play three of their next four at home.
The Jazz will finally put a bow on a six-game road trip. Utah is 2-3 so far on the sojourn with wins over the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic, but lost its last time out.
The Jazz got clobbered in Charlotte, 104-86, to the Hornets on Saturday night.
Gordon Hayward paced the Jazz with 14 points to go along with six assists. Joe Ingles had a career-high 13 points off the bench and Derrick Favors also scored 13 points as Utah had its 10-game winning streak against the Hornets snapped
Rudy Gobert deposited 11 points with 12 rebounds in the loss. Alec Burks and Trey Burke finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively
"We were searching to find some juice all night," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said.
The Hornets opened the game up with a 12-2 run in the third quarter. Charlotte took a 21-point cushion into the fourth, where the Jazz made a little move, but came up well short.
The Grizzlies have won four straight against the Jazz and seven of the last eight. Memphis has taken five in a row and eight of the previous nine as the host in this series.
