Suns carry win streak into Big Easy
Dec 30, 2014 - 3:09 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Phoenix Suns will take a six-game winning streak into the Big Easy Tuesday night when they face the New Orleans Pelicans at Smoothie King Center. The Suns haven't lost since Dec. 15 at home against the Milwaukee Bucks. Since, Phoenix won six straight, including five in a row as the visitor. The Suns will end a four-game road swing Wednesday night versus the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Suns' most recent victory came Sunday night with a 116-107 road win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Suns' point guard trio combined for 61 points as Phoenix has taken a two- game lead for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
Goran Dragic scored a game-high 24 points, Eric Bledsoe posted 22 with eight rebounds and eight assists and Isaiah Thomas had 15 off the bench for the suddenly red-hot Suns.
Markieff Morris and P.J. Tucker finished with 12 each for a Suns' team which shot 50.6 percent from the field.
"We stayed focused," said Suns coach Jeff Hornacek. "Eric had a rough start but he gave us a big lift in the third quarter."
The Pelicans have traded wins and losses over the last six to stay at .500.
Last time out, the Pelicans fell in Chicago, 107-100, to the Bulls.
Chicago native Anthony Davis had 29 points to pace the Pelicans, who failed to build on a 97-90 home win over San Antonio Friday night. Tyreke Evans scored 26 and Jrue Holiday notched 19 with seven assists.
Davis, who attended Perspectives Charter High School in Chicago, went 13-of-24 from the field and had 11 rebounds and six blocks.
"They're very good, possibly the best team in the league," Davis said of the Bulls. "They have all types of weapons."
Ryan Anderson, who had 13 points for the Pelicans, had a streak of 42 made free throws snapped with 3:29 left in the first quarter. It was his first miss since Nov. 29 at Washington
These two teams figure to be in contention for the final playoff berth in the Western Conference later in the spring.
