76ers top Cavs for 1st home win

Jan 6, 2015 - 5:30 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tony Wroten's go-ahead layup with 9.9 seconds remaining gave the Philadelphia 76ers their first home win of the season, a 95-92 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.

The game was overshadowed by trade rumors involving Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters, who didn't suit up Monday. Those rumors became reality after the game, as Cleveland dealt Waiters to Oklahoma City in a three-team deal while acquiring guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert from the New York Knicks.

Center Alex Kirk and forward Lou Amundson also sat out and were sent to the Knicks, with the Cavs also getting a protected 2015 first-round pick from the Thunder in the swap.

Wroten ended with 20 points and eight assists for the Sixers, who improved to 1-14 at home. Michael Carter-Williams tallied 18 points, 13 assists and six rebounds in his return to the lineup.

"It means a lot. It's our first home game win," said Carter-Williams. "We're really excited, we really put the pieces together at the end of the game. We came back in the fourth, and we did all of the things we needed to do at the end of the game."

Kevin Love had 28 points and 19 boards for the Cavaliers, who have lost five of six. Tristan Thompson and Joe Harris contributed 18 and 16 points, respectively, with Thompson also pulling down nine rebounds.

"It was tough, but we still felt like we should have won the game," said Love. "We had it under control, we just didn't bury them. We felt like as a team we should have beat them."

Trailing 86-76 with 6:07 to play, Philadelphia went on a 12-2 run to tie the game. Wroten tallied the final six points of the spurt, including a floater with 1:59 left to make it 88-88.

Love made two free throws and put down a dunk around a Henry Sims jumper to make it 92-90. Wroten made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to make it a one- point game.

The score was the same when Cleveland's Matthew Dellavedova missed two free throws with 20.6 seconds remaining. Wroten made a driving layup at the other end to put the Sixers in front.

Love was unable to tip-in Dellavedova's missed layup and Philadelphia's Robert Covington made two free throws with 0.3 seconds to go.

The Cavaliers led 50-37 at the half before building a 17-point lead in the third quarter.

Trailing 62-45 midway through the third, the Sixers went on a 10-0 run to pull within seven. Cleveland held a 68-60 edge heading to the fourth.
