Hawks stay hot by taking down Clippers

Jan 6, 2015 - 6:38 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Paul Millsap tallied 23 points and the Atlanta Hawks proved themselves once again by pulling away for an impressive 107-98 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jeff Teague netted 12 of his 20 points in the third quarter as the Hawks dominated the final 15 minutes to break open a close contest and surge to their fifth consecutive triumph.

Atlanta, now 19-2 since Nov. 26, maintained its lead atop the Eastern Conference and has now won eight straight against the more-heralded West, including notable results over Portland and the Clippers on this current road trip.

Teague added nine assists for the Hawks, who also received a 17-point, eight- rebound effort from DeMarre Carroll and 16 points from Al Horford.

The Clippers had a three-game win streak halted despite Blake Griffin's 26 points and 10 rebounds. DeAndre Jordan posted 15 points and 16 boards in the loss, while Chris Paul also recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 assists.

Atlanta took control near the end of the third quarter, closing out the period on a 10-2 run to turn a tie game into a 77-69 lead. Carroll began the spurt with a transition layup, then knocked down a 3-pointer off a Teague steal moments afterward to get the Hawks rolling.

Jamal Crawford's triple to open the fourth got the Clippers back within five, but Atlanta's Pero Antic buried a trey on the other end and Dennis Schroder followed with a driving basket to put the Hawks up 82-72.

Atlanta kept on charging from there, with a Schroder three preceding back-to- back dunks from Horford and Millsap that extended the margin to 93-78 with seven minutes to go.

The Hawks remained ahead by 15 nearing the final minute, when Los Angeles scored the game's last six points.

Los Angeles got off to a terrific start, sinking five of its first six shots during an 11-2 game-opening run. Atlanta countered with a 13-4 sequence to tie it, but the Clippers owned a 26-21 edge after one quarter behind seven points and seven rebounds from Jordan.

Griffin's dunk off a Paul feed sent Los Angeles into halftime with a 46-44 lead, and neither side was in front by more than four points until the Hawks started to separate near the end of the third quarter.
