76ers go for another home win vs. Bucks

Jan 7, 2015 - 2:52 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia 76ers earned their first home victory of the season last time out and will try for two in a row Wednesday night when the Milwaukee Bucks head to the Wells Fargo Center.

After dropping their first 14 as the host, the Sixers knocked off the short- handed Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday, 95-92.

Sure the Cavs were without All-Stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, then traded key bench piece Dion Waiters after starting lineups were introduced, but a win is a win for Philly.

"It means a lot. It's our first home game win," said Michael Carter-Williams. "We're really excited, we really put the pieces together at the end of the game. We came back in the fourth, and we did all of the things we needed to do at the end of the game."

Trailing 86-76 with 6:07 to play, Philadelphia went on a 12-2 run to tie the game. The Cavs reclaimed a one-point lead when Cleveland's Matthew Dellavedova missed two free throws with 20.6 seconds remaining. Sixers guard Tony Wroten made a driving layup at the other end to put the Sixers in front.

Love was unable to tip-in Dellavedova's missed layup and Philadelphia's Robert Covington made two free throws with 0.3 seconds to go.

Wroten ended with 20 points and eight assists for the Sixers. Carter-Williams tallied 18 points, 13 assists and six rebounds in his return to the lineup. He missed the final game of their lengthy road trip against the Clippers with shoulder soreness.

The Bucks have lost two of their last three, but have won four straight on the road.

On Tuesday, Milwaukee fell at home to the Phoenix Suns, 102-96.

Brandon Knight paced the Bucks with 26 points, and Giannis Antetokounmpo totaled 16 with 12 rebounds in Milwaukee's fourth straight home loss.

The Suns scored 12 of the first 16 points of the fourth quarter to take an 83-76 lead and stayed in front the rest of the way.

Khris Middleton, whose buzzer-beating 3-pointer topped the Suns back on Dec. 15, hit from deep with under two minutes left to pull the Bucks within 94-92.

Phoenix, however, answered with the next six points to cement the win.

"We were in the game. We had an opportunity against one of the hottest teams in the league and we just couldn't get the ball to bounce our way," Bucks head coach Jason Kidd said.

After Wednesday's tilt, the Bucks play five of their next six in Milwaukee.

The Bucks beat the Sixers by 12 in Milwaukee on Halloween. That gave the Bucks three straight and six of eight wins in the series, although the Sixers are 5-2 in their last seven at home versus Milwaukee.
