Aldridge paces Blazers over Magic

Jan 11, 2015 - 6:51 AM Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - LaMarcus Aldridge had 25 points and six rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Orlando Magic 103-92 on Saturday night.

Wesley Matthews posted 18 points and eight rebounds and Damian Lillard added 16 points, five boards and five assists for the Blazers, who have won seven of their last eight games.

"It was a win we needed to get. I like the way we came out in the first half," Blazers coach Terry Stotts said.

Nik Vucevic tallied a career-high 34 points and 16 boards, while Victor Oladipo provided 18 points, eight rebounds and four helpers for Orlando, which has dropped six straight contests.

"I think we just stayed the course ... We continued to put ourselves in a position to find success," Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn said.

After Vucevic tied the game at 85-85 with a pair of free throws with 4:12 remaining, the Blazers went on a 14-4 run to put the game away. Lillard, who had five points during the surge, capped it by splitting two foul shots for a 99-89 cushion with 39.2 seconds left.

Portland nailed a trio of triples in the beginning stages of the game as it raced out to a 20-7 start before taking a 26-13 spread into the second quarter.

The Blazers were up by as many as 19 in the second, but the Magic whittled the deficit to 46-41 heading into the break.

Elfrid Payton finished off an 11-2 swing to start the third with a reverse layup for a 52-48 Orlando lead.

Portland held a 72-70 edge after three.
